If you are filing 250 or more 1099 forms, the IRS requires that you file electronically. See IRS Publication 1220 for more information.

This section describes how to create electronic files for submission to the IRS. These procedures are in addition to procedures described elsewhere in this document for preparing 1099 data and generating reports. If you are electronically submitting 1099 data to the IRS, you must perform the procedures described elsewhere in this document, as well as the procedures described in this section.

Procedures specific to electronic submission include:

c	Creating the vendor record for the transmitter.

c	Generating the electronic files.

c	Checking the electronic files before submission.

c	Submitting the files.
