Voyager Security and Menu Configuration : Security Groups and Users

Security Groups and Users
This section describes how to add security groups and users to your Voyager databases. Adding security groups is the first step in controlling access to your property-management data. You should plan your security groups carefully to balance data-security requirements with staff efficiency. By organizing groups according to areas of responsibility, you can configure Voyager access rights to match user requirements. Groups can vary in size. If you have specific tasks that are performed by a single staff member, you can add a security group that contains only that member.
After adding security groups, you can add users to each group. Each user is associated with a group, and each group is associated with a set of menus and privileges that are applicable to the group's tasks. You can add menu sets for a security group either before or after adding members to the group. For each group, you should only add users who require the specific access permissions assigned to the group. In this manner, you can limit user access only to tasks that apply to their job descriptions. After you properly set up menu security, users who log on to Voyager can view and access only those menu commands pertinent to their group responsibilities.
Security groups that were previously added in Yardi Enterprise are also available for use in Voyager. If you have not previously added security groups to an existing database, you must establish new security groups for Voyager users.
