Interim Recertifications Overview

An Interim recertification (IR) documents changes in household size or circumstances.

HUD project-based programs require interim recertifications when there is a change in family size circumstances or a change in income that is over $200 per month. LIHTC requires a recertification when a new family member is added to the household. HUD project-based and LIHTC interim recertifications do not affect an annual recertification date.

You may want to use an interim recertification to record a new tenant-based subsidy for a HOME or LIHTC household. Voyager automatically updates the resident's lease charges for changes in rent and subsidy. Using an interim recertification is a convenient way to perform this task.

Although Rural Development requires a new certification for changes in household size or circumstances, Rural Development requires an annual recertification and not an interim recertification.
